So this happened

Instead of closing down my blog completely I moved it to a platform I enjoy blogging on more; tumblr.

I basically did the opposite of what I said two posts down. Instead of getting rid of my name on the net so future employers couldn't find it, I put it out there even more by buying DaveBurrows.ca (true story. it will be up in a month or so, just very basic stuff, though).

I decided transparency is basically where all this online stuff is going so I might as well embrace it and try and have some idea of what someone will see if they're looking for me.

I appreciate all the people that read my randomness on here and commented over the years, I'd like it very much if you continued to pay attention to me over at my new location.

I think this is it ladies and gentleman. I think it's time to shut this old blog down.

I don't really have time to update it anymore and what use is it just sitting here? For years I've read how employers will google a potential employees name and read their blog, I could care less. No one I would work for would care about some of the ridiculousness I have stored here. But as I get older I realize that eventually I'll have to work for someone, somewhere, who would, at the very least, roll their eyes at some of the shenanigans I've posted of myself online. So, if I'm not going to update this, if it's not going to serve a purpose, I might as well set it to private so it's not a hindrance.

I'm going to take a few days and think it over. Obviously this is not goodbye as everyone who reads this blog has me on facebook (though I might be getting rid of that as well so this might be a good time to write down my email) so there is no need for crying.

Despite all the haters rooting against me I made it home for Christmas, and only a half an hour late. As usual being home is absolutely hilarious but for some reason I didn't bring my laptop so I can't show you the pictures I've been taking on my new camera. Yes! Christmas gifts!

where I automatically become a photographer because I own an expensive camera that makes everything look pretty. No, think of a camera small enough to slide in and out of your pocket so you can take pictures like this:

I was also given the entire series of the British Office AND...

Most importantly everyone liked the gifts I gave them so even though most of my Christmas day was spent traveling it was still a great Christmas with lotslotslots of laughs.

Today? Today I'm just lounging around with the family; eating and listening to one of the CDs I got my sister

For anyone who saw Mike Tyson fight pre-1990's (or watched his early fights on ESPN Classic like me) the above picture has to make you a bit sad. Tyson won his first 19 pro fights by knockout, 12 of which were in the first round. He had Foreman like strength with Ali-esque speed. He was unbeatable.

Then in 1985 the trainer who pulled Tyson out of reform school when he was a kid (Tyson was arrested 38 times by the age of 13) died. This would be the beginning of the crazy.

He still had a good couple of years left, in 1987 he became the first heavyweight boxer ever to hold all three major championship belts. Plus Mike Tyson's Punch-Out! was also released on NES so that's a positive.

Then the crazy fully set in, he lost to Buster Douglas in 1990 and in 1991 was accused of rape. He was convicted in 1992 and spent three years in prison. Upon release he bite a guy's ear, ripping a piece off, threatened to eat a man's children, and tattooed his face.

Above is a man who had an absurdly rough childhood, fought his way to millions and millions of dollars and then was given no guidance (for his life or for his money). Now, he is overweight, bankrupt and remembered in popular culture as a freak. It's too bad.

The thing is my Mom has no idea who Eli Manning is.

Last night Jeff and I went through all of these old pictures and videos on my computer from a couple years ago and realized we used to be a lot more fun. What happened? I have no idea. Jeff claimed, in all seriousness, that back then he thought the cops couldn't touch him so he was more care free.

Whatever it is I'm starting up a look-back series on the old Jeff and Dave (and sometimes Mike). Lets start it off with how I woke up Jeff when he slept over last:

Bought and listened to the new Kanye CD. Not bad but nothing as ground breaking as Kanye was hyping it up to be. It's silly, though, to complain it's not "fun" (see Jody Rosen from Rolling Stone). The Cd's main themes are Kanye breaking up with his fiancee and losing his Mother. Where exactly would Kanye slip in his usual tongue and cheek lyrics when trying to grapple with those issues?

Anyway, I'll tell you what CD I am really looking forward to; "Universal Mind Control" by Common. Apparently it has fun-o-meter cranked.

I just listened to 808s again and it's getting better. "Heartless" is the best track on the CD and "Robocop" is hilarious with Kanye yapping at a girl trying to play victim in an argument.

I was thinking out loud to Kelly yesterday about how I dislike always saying "thank YOU. See you later!" after I'm done packing up someones books in a bag and how I need a catch phrase instead. Like "ya'll come back now, ya hear?" or "thank you, come again!"

So far I've been going with "stay awesome!" which has been fun except I sound too much like that Ace guy.

Any ideas?

Maybe "don't stop believing" or "keep on truckin'!" ??

A couple of dudes put together a Coldplay + Jay-Z mashup CD called Viva La Hova (much like Danger Mouse did with Jay-Z and the Beatles on The Grey Album). It's pretty good with Coldplay's music and chorus' creating an interesting dynamic with Jay's lyrics.

- I have fully moved into my new place and it is lovely. I'll post pics in the next few days to give you an idea of where I now lay my head.

- I am helping start another web-thinger for Aqua Books that will be taking some of my spare blogging time so I might not be around a ton again. But unlike the tumblelog this is actually quite a massive project, hopefully it will be worthwhile for us at Aqua and to the community of Winnipeg.
